Continuous Line Drawing Assignment

Image
Below are my three continuous line drawings. I used Bristol board and a fine tip black permanent marker. I do not enjoy drawing and found this assignment to be difficult. The first drawing is the self-portrait, the second one is of Jennifer Hoefs and her dog and the third one is of a turtle. I looked at a lot of different artists but could not duplicate it anywhere near as well.

Propaganda Poster

For this assignment I decided to do a politcal poster of Trump hugging the Russian flag with the words "I pledge allegiance to Russia" as I feel it is relevant. I used the font "Comic Sans" for the title as it is not a font to be taken seriously, however, it was an actual font used in the Trump campaign.

Positive/Negative Space Finished Assignement

Image
Below is the finished product of the positive/negative space project. I used patterned paper to cut out the whale shapes and then used a glue stick to attach them to the Bristol board. I then took a red permanent marker to create some additional wave like designs and a sun. Overall, it did not come out exactly as I had initially planned. However, I like the way the finished product looks.

Concept for Positive/Negative Space

Image
Hello Class- I have chosen to go with my first concept- 2 killer whales in the shape of a yin-yang. This will be a little bit of a political piece as the Japanese kill a lot of whales. I recently read a NY Times article that was titled "122 Pregnant Whales Were Killed in Japan's Latest Hunt". After reading further, I read that 114 of the 333 total whales killed were considered immature. I am going to use this information to create my positive/negative space art piece by using red and white as my 2 colors- the colors of the Japanese flag. I am then going to use the numbers 122 and 114 inside the shape of the whale as negative space. Hopefully it comes out as well as I see it in my head, below is the very rough, first draft sketch.

3D Paper Sculpture Project

Image
Below are 3 images of my 3D paper sculpture project. The first one was taken while I was still in progress of finishing it and the second two photos are once it was completed.  The concept that I was initially going for was that of a kind of "pin point impression". Remember those things that you would push your hand or face into and it would create a 3D effect? That was the concept, however, once I started on it I just went with the flow until I was happy with what I had. The materials that I used were: Foam board, different pieces of patterned or colored paper, super glue, a glue stick, a sharp knife, pencil and ruler.
